Hi lovebugs! Here comes the first outfit of our USA adventure. It’s so freakishly hot here that I’d rather go completely naked, perhaps with ice cubes taped on all over my body. Even though it’s hot like a freakin’ pizza oven here, I’ve managed to get the worst cold. All stores and restaurants are air-conditioned to freezing temperatures, while outside it’s as hot as the previously mentioned pizza oven.. Walking in and out and shifting between sweat and goosebumps is the recipe for a cold, at least for me. But enough complaining, we’re having the best time here! Our new hotel gets big thumbs up from me, and the city is so fascinating. I’ll show you lots of pics later, right now we’re hitting the road to head to the first stop of our road trip. We’re going to a tiny city that I’ve never even heard of, but I can’t wait. It’s so fun to see more of the US than just the big cities. We’re headed back to Las Vegas next weekend, which is great as we’ll probably get to see a bit of the infamous nightlife. We’ve been so jet lagged that we’ve fallen asleep at 9pm both days!     I’ve been reading your blog for so long but have never commented, just not usually one to interact digitally. Anyway I wanted to mention that you should try oil of oregano to stop getting sick so much. It’s a very powerful and all natural antibacterial and if you drop 5 drops under your tongue a few times per day at the first sign of cold symptoms it kills the bacteria and prevents the cold. I have found that even if I take it too late to prevent the cold, it significantly reduces symptoms and decreases the length of sickness. Also, if I know I’m going to be at risk for picking up a bug (high stress occasions, large gatherings etc) I will just take it daily until the risk is reduced again. Since I started using it almost 3 years ago I have had 2 full blown colds, both times while traveling without bringing along my oil of oregano (will never travel without it again!). I used to get sick all the time as I’m a massage therapist and am close to lots of people every day, I honestly believe I would still get colds once a month if I wasn’t using this natural miracle. Sorry this is so long, but you seem to pick up bugs frequently which I know can be such a disappointment when you’ve made such amazing plans. I really believe in the oil of oregano and the best part is it’s natural so there’s no harm in trying :)

    As a medical student I just can’t help to comment on this. First of all, a cold is a viral infection, which means that it’s caused by a virus – so using anything that kills bacteria (like you claim oregano oil does) won’t work. Second, the possible reasons to why traveling seems to cause colds are:

    A. Long flights with hundreds of people, where statistically one or more will most likely be carriers of a cold virus, which can easily spread in the cabin. And,

    B. Frequent access to air-conditioners, which extract moisture from the air, and may contribute in allowing viruses to establish in our bodies by (possibly) drying out the protective mucus that lines our upper respiratory system.

    I’m sorry if this offends you in some way, I’m seriously not trying to be a bitch about this. Just trying to kill off some of the myths about colds. I agree with you when you say there’s no harm in trying – after all, the placebo effect is a powerful thing that we should embrace :)
