Table Mountain

16 Comments | South Africa 2012

Hi girlies :) I just finished some work that had loaded up from when I was in South Africa, and I’m on my way out on a powerwalk. I’ve decided to start doing an hour powerwalk/run every single day, and so far I’m loving it, especially with fun music in my ears. Speaking of exercising, I thought I’d show you some pictures from the toughest mountain hike I’ve ever done, and I’ve climbed a lot of mountains in my life. We thought this would be an easy morning stroll, so we headed out pretty early, and poor Brianne only had donuts for breakfast. I’m glad I had a real brekkie, cause holy shitballs this was one hell of a hike!! Pardon my french. It was so incredibly steep, two and a half hours hiking and it didn’t get any less steep until we made it to the top. When we came to the top we felt like we were on the top of the world though, an amazing feeling! Most tourists just do the cable up, but if you’re ever in South Africa, be sure to do the hike, if not for the exercise, then at least for the astonishingly gorgeous view. Picture time!! Check out Brianne on the fourth picture, if you can see her. Haha, poor thing didn’t have much energy left after donut breakfast..

How gorgeous does it look?! I wanna do it again! Okay, that’s a lie, maybe in a couple of years.. When our driver picked us up after the hike, he told us about an American couple he drove around a few weeks ago, and they actually asked him “Wow, that’s a big mountain. Do you know how much time it took to build it?“. That almost beat our comments on the horseback riding safari!  Hope you’re all having a fantastic Friday<3

Africa Memories

22 Comments | South Africa 2012

I’ve just looked through all of my pictures from Africa, so many amazing memories.. The week went by so fast that I almost forgot all of the cool things we did, so pictures are gold. Here are some (a shitload) of pictures from the day we went to Boulders Beach/Penguin Bay. We started the day with a hike up Table Mountain, but I’ll share pictures of that tomorrow. Ah, I wanna go back!!

From our hotel suite in Camps Bay..

With our awesome driver. We had him the whole day, and he was just so amazing and told us so many interesting facts while we drove around. It became a little freaky when he started calling us to see how his ‘gals’ were doing though, not to mention the night he waited outside of our hotel to see if we came out and needed a ride. But for the most part, he was super sweet.

In Boulders Bay. I’ve posted all of the adorable penguin pictures already, but this is at the same spot :)

A gorgeous beach we drove past.. We were so lucky with the weather, as it was bad both the day before and the day after. Yay!

Doing jumping pictures with the self timer was fun, until we noticed a bunch of men taking pictures of us from the back. Haha.

The awesome threesome<3

I miss these girls so much already!!

Besties<3

On our way home a bunch of baboons came running on to the road! We stopped and took pictures of them for about a half hour, such cute animals! Baboons are actually the only wild animal in South Africa which can be dangerous to humans though, as they look at us as a food source. So doors locked and windows all the way up was the way to go. There were a bunch of villas there, and the people living there were so tired of baboons breaking into their houses, stealing all their food and making a huge mess, so outside each house there was a man with a paintball gun to keep the baboons away. Crazy!

On our way home, the sun started to set. This picture is taken through the car window, and it still turned out amazing. Crazy pretty light!

Our driver stopped anywhere we asked him to, so when I saw this sunset I just had stop for a little photo shoot. The colors in the sky were just beyond!!

The sun went down so fast, it was really cool to watch..

Puh, I think that’s about enough pictures for one blog post. I always feel pretty annoying when I bring my camera everywhere and take pictures of everything, but man, I’m glad I’m that annoying girl with her annoying camera, because I’ll have these photos to remember the trip by forever. Have a great evening lovebugs<3

Horseback Riding Safari

57 Comments | South Africa 2012

Okay, so this was without a doubt the most terrifying and awesome experience in my whole life. Words can’t even describe the adrenalin rush that went through my body. So as you know we went on the safari with the car, and we were super nervous about the horse back riding trip in the surrounding area afterwards. It wasn’t until we stood there with our helmets on ready to jump up on the horses, that we realized that we were actually going back in to the gated area where some of the most dangerous animals in Africa/the world, live.. And what more, we had absolutely no clue as to how to maneuver a horse. In hindsight, I must say the whole thing was pretty unprofessional. Tonje and I were so scared, we told the guides that we never had ridden a horse before and that we absolutely didn’t feel safe on top of those gorgeous yet scary animals. We asked for some sort of instructions, but all they said was “If the horse gets scared, do not scream“. Oh, thanks a lot, if a hippo is chasing us and I’m beyond dead in a few seconds, I’ll remember the not screaming part. Excellent advise! Neither Tonje or I had ever been that afraid in our whole lives, but what was really weird was that our reaction to that was laughing. We laughed so hard that tears poured down our cheeks, of no reason. We were like “Hahahaha, we’re probably going to die now, you know that, right? Hahahaha“. So now I know that when I get piss-my-pants-scared in the future, I’ll react with laughter. Good to know. Enough chit chat, it’s picture time!

You know you’ve been blogging for a while when you manage to fake a smile when all you want to do is scream and run to the bathroom and hide under the sink..

“Excuse me mister Horse Man, but how do you drive this thing??”

Mary Ann and I ready for action!

And we’re off! I can’t believe I actually took the time to take blog pictures while I was fighting for my life (sort of).

The area was beyond gorgeous, so at least it would’ve been a pretty place to go if that was the outcome..

Look at the hippos laying there waiting for their dinner (us)!!! They’re extremely territorial, and can go from 0 to 45 km/h in six seconds!! I didn’t dare to ask our guides how fast my horse could run. Some things we’re just better off not knowing..

My horse definitely had a death wish, because here she was on her way out into the hippo pond. Thanks a lot Mary Ann!!! You can actually see the hippos in the back. Iiiiiik!!

Apparently, in addition to laughter, brain dead comments are also one of our reactions when in a terrified state of mind. Here’s just a few examples that I can remember, but trust me, there was plenty more where they came from. The guides actually told us we were by far the funniest tourists they’d ever had, and I don’t doubt it for a second.

Guide: You see those two male ostriches over there? They’re getting ready to mate (parre seg)
Tonje (shocked): With us?!?!?

Guide: Ostriches are actually vegetarians
Me: Sir, I think you’re mistaken, they’re actually red meat. I just had one for dinner last night.

Guide: You see that big egg over there? Guess which animal that comes from.
Me: That must be an elephant egg!

Apparently, elephants don’t lay eggs. Haha, of course I really knew that, it just slipped out. The guide in the back almost fell off his horse laughing of the stupid Norwegians.. In case anyone wonders, it was an ostrich egg, which they made us take pictures with. Not blog material; Me, sitting on a horse, with eyes bloody red from crying (yes, I did cry on more than one occasion), with a freakin’ ostrich egg in my hands.. Haha.

We were just meters away from the zebras!!

Guide: Over there we have gnus..
Tonje: (again, shocked and a little angry): Are those the ones who killed Mufasa in Lion King?!?!

Finally done!!!

By the way, I’ve gotten a lot of questions about this green jacket, and which size I have. It can be found here, and I have size 10 :) (adlink)

I don’t know if it’s even possible to imagine how scary and awesome this was at the same time, without being there. The craziest experience of my life!! I might already have said that a few times. But it was. I’ve gotten a few questions on where it was, how much it cost and if I would recommend it and so on. We went to Aquila Game Reserve two hours outside of Cape Town, and the whole thing with transportation cost around 2500kr. Definitely worth the money! Especially as far as the car safari goes. When it comes to the horse back riding, I’m not sure if I would recommend it. I’m extremely glad I did it, seeing how I survived, but it was actually extremely scary. We didn’t feel safe at all, and we weren’t taken seriously when we said so. The instruction part of the whole horse back riding ordeal was also pretty ridiculous. My horse started running really fast so many times, and it wasn’t before at the end of the trip that the guide told med that the horse just ran to cover the gap between her and the horse in front of her. How was I supposed to know that? Am I a freakin’ horse whisperer? No, I’m a fashion blogger, I do not speak horse language. When there’s elephants, rhinos, hippos, gnus and what not in sight, and I’m sitting on a horse I don’t know how to manuver, and it starts galloping, give me a little heads up that it’s not going to feed me to the other animals please!! All in all, I’m extremely glad I did it, but would I do it again? I would rather poke out my eyeballs with a spoon while jumping into a pool full of white sharks with a bloody wound, then eat tikka masala with curry chicken for dinner (I absolutely hate tikka masala and everything with curry on it).

Would you guys want to do this?

Safari

48 Comments | South Africa 2012

I hope you’re not bored with my blogging from Africa, I feel like you’ve been sort of quiet lately? Anyway, here’s some more Africa blogging! Haha, I’ll go back to outfits tomorrow, promise. Here are some of the pictures I took at the safari, being there and seeing the animals so close was just completely surreal. I love this first picture of the zebra, it’s going right up on my wall :) So pretty, and special since I took it myself.

The area was just amazingly beautiful!

We were just driving around on these roads for hours, looking at the animals. Such a cool experience!

We were so close to the hippos, but I wasn’t scared or anything because I thought they were just lazy animals that slept all day. Oh man, was I mistaking! Hippos are actually the number one killer of all the animals in Africa. Last year at least 210 people were killed by a hippo here. And we were like 15 meters away!! We were terrified!

Giraffes are the prettiest animal here I think! Maybe together with zebras.. And lions.. And elephants.. Ah, I can’t decide!

The springboks were everywhere..

Freakishly scary rhino!!

After this crazy experience; driving around with all the animals, we were going horse back riding in the mountains. We thought. But oh no, we went right back in to the animals! I’ve never been that scared in my entire life!! I’ll share pictures of that tomorrow :) Hope you liked the pictures, don’t you just want to go there and experience it for yourselves?? I’d do it again in a heartbeat!

The Last Day

6 Comments | South Africa 2012

Hi sweetiepies :) I just got home from what has to be the most amazing vacation in my life! It’s been just non-stop fun all day and night. I miss Tonje and everyone else so much already, but it’s also very nice to be home with my friends, fam, boyfriend and not to mention Bella! She’s always ecstatic when mama comes home from vacations, she usually pees all over me in excitement, but luckily not today, phiew! Right now I’m pretty beat and sleep deprived after the long travel and not to mention the intense week, so a nice long shower and a family dinner is on the menu. I have so many pictures to show you, so I need to look through them as well, probably around ten thousand pictures, haha. Me and my camera..

Yesterday we were supposed to hit the market, then spend all day in Hermanus to go whale watching, but we simply didn’t have an ounce of energy left in our bodies. We ended up going to a super cosy bakery with Tonje’s roomies and Brianne, and we also went shopping a bit. I found some really cute things, can’t wait to show you! After that Malene made us delicious mohitos in their backyard, before the evening was spent at a yummy Lebanese restaurant. Days like that, I could seriously get used to them!

Brianne, Vilde, Tonje, Malene and Connor chilling with mohitos by the pool. Beautiful people!

Can you imagine having sunsets like this every night? I want to go back!!

Brianne mixing yummy but stroong mohitos!

Probably my fave restaurant in South Africa, who knew lebanese food was so amazing?!

The main courses were huge so we all just shared a few. One of the best meals I’ve ever had!

Hope you’re all having a wonderful Sunday♥♥

Hi lovebugs :) We’re (hopefully) at the safari right now, so this is a prewritten post. I’ve taken so many pictures here, so I thought I’d share some random pictures of me and the girls today. I’m gonna miss them so much once I leave!!

At Victoria Waterfront, a huge mall with lots of restaurants and cute boutiques :)

The best burger ever, before Tonje managed to spill her whole glass of water over the burger, fries and my whole lower body. Haha, thanks!!

Cute!!

The sunset from our suite in Camps Bay. Lovely!!

Have a great friday sweet people <3

Bye Bye Cape Town

12 Comments | South Africa 2012

Hi sweet people :) We just woke up, pretty hungover from last night. The township tour was really nice, and not at all what I expected. I’ll tell you more about it and show you pictures when I find time. We’re being picked up in a few minutes and we’re headed to the school where Tonje and Brianne work as teachers a few times a week. I can’t wait to meet the children, I’ve seen videos of them and they’re just beyond adorable. So we’re leaving Cape Town for now, and we’re spending the last few days together in Stellenbosch.

One thing that surprised me yesterday at the township tour was how happy the children were! Seriously, I’ve never seen children that happy, not even in Norway. Look how adorable they are<3 I want to bring them home with me!!

Now we’re off, have a great day girls<3

Penguin Bay

30 Comments | South Africa 2012

Warning: This post contains an overload of penguin pictures!! I narrowed it down from like four hundred to thirteen for you though, so I think I did a pretty good job. They’re just so adorable! And I think it’s so cool to have pictures of penguins where they actually live, and not in a zoo. When I’m this excited over penguins, I can’t even imagine what the safari on Friday is gonna be like! So excited. Starting with the awesome threesome; Brianne, Tonje and yours truly. I’m so glad Brianne joined us on this Cape Town trip! I didn’t really know anything about her before we met at the train on our way to Cape Town, but I just love her. The three of us have so much fun together!

Okay, so here we go. Penguins. Penguins everywhere! On the most gorgeous beach ever..

Baby penguin♥

Okay, so the red gate there is the exit, and we were right on our way out when this gang of penguins came walking towards us! We seriously lost our breath, because this wasn’t the area the penguins were supposed to be at. Super cool!

Like I said, when I’m this excited over penguins, just wait to after the safari. I’m gonna have enough blog material for the rest of the year, haha. Life advise; Go to South Africa before you die.

The Most Amazing Day!!

7 Comments | South Africa 2012

Good morning lovebugs :) Thank you for sweet words yesterday. I of course can’t stay totally away from the blog, I want to share our experiences with you guys! I think yesterday was one of the coolest days of my life!! We started really early, and went to Table Mountain for a hike. Little did we know that the trip up was harder than any mountain we’ve ever climbed combined! It was so steep, and it was just climbing for more than two straight hours. For those of you who live in Bergen, it’s like Stoltzekleiven just a hundred times as long! The view on the top made it worth it though. Then we headed home, showered real quick, and went to Boulders Bay to see the penguins. It was so cool to see them, completely surreal. There’s just something magical about seeing them in their natural habitat, in stead of in the zoo. We were a little bummed because we couldn’t get close to them though, just stand behind the fences. After that we hung out at the beach right next to where the penguins were, and when we were on our way out, a bunch of penguins just came walking towards us! I got amazing pictures and I also filmed them, so funny! We didn’t get to go to Cape Point because it closed early, but on the drive home, a lot of baboons suddenly came out of nowhere and hung out at the road! Our driver was so sweet, and stopped the car so we could look at them and take lots of pictures. Again, surreal to see them where they actually live freely, not in zoos. I must have taken between a thousand and two thousand pictures yesterday, and haven’t had time to look through them all, let alone blog any of them. I think sorting out pictures to blog is a good activity on the plane ride home Saturday night, but here’s a little sneak peek :)

Now we’re headed out to explore the neighborhood and the gorgeous beach, then we’re being picked up to go to Langa, the township. I’m very excited, but I think it will be a surreal and heartbreaking experience. So far I’ve only seen the gigantic mansions and the gorgeous beaches up close, so seeing how millions of people in extreme poverty live just 15 minutes from our hotel.. It will be an experience, for sure. I hope you’re all having a fantastic day :)

Five

10 Comments | South Africa 2012

“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone”

A quote I just love, and try to live by. Ordering ostrich at a restaurant is so far out of my comfort zone, almost out there with octopus and snails. It just seems.. Weird! But trust me on this one, the ostrich was one of the best meals I’ve ever had! The meat was just so tender, tasteful and insanely good! I’m getting a watery mouth just thinking about it. Here in Africa I’m definitely keeping that quote in mind, I want to experience as many cool things as possible. If we find the time, we’re actually going home to an African family and cook with them, and they will teach us traditional dishes. How cool is that?!

The restaurant we went to on Sunday, called Five, is probably the coolest restaurant I’ve ever been to. As always, here’s lots of pictures;

My gorgeous bestie, Tonje<3

Retro interior, so cool!

The heavenly chocolate fondant we had for dessert, YUM!!

They even had a movie room upstairs! Restaurants in Bergen, take notes!!
