Blog Birthday – 4 Years

77 Comments | Fashion

Today is September 1st, which means that it’s exactly four years ago that I hopped on a plane filled with excitement and nerves, and headed to New York City to start the adventure of a lifetime. Without knowing anyone there, I still felt 100% confident about moving to the city of my dreams for two months, just to explore and get to know the city that was on my mind every awake minute.  With the big move to New York, my blog was born, and the name ‘Cath In The City‘ seemed fitting. My blog was created with the sole purpose to keep my friends and family updated on what I was doing, but after a while I was in stead updating thousands of people on what I was wearing. After two months of blogging I could not only see myself in my favorite Norwegian fashion magazine with a recommendation to read my blog, I was also nominated for having the most inspiring blog of the year, even though I had just started! It’s so crazy to think about it all, and it just goes to show how amazing opportunities can come from chasing your dreams, like I did when I moved to NY. When I first started the blog, I wasn’t planning on continuing when I came back home to Norway, I just wanted a diary of my stay in the city so that I could go back and look at it when I’m old and grey. Now I have a diary of four whole years in my life! Again, this is all so crazy, and it’s all thanks to you guys, who read my blog and follow my journey every day. I can’t express with words how grateful I am!! Let’s take a little walk down memory lane, shall we?

2010 was the year it all started. As you know I moved to New York all by myself, and I quickly made friends and had the time of my life. I was walking around exploring new areas and neighborhoods every day, talking to people I met, going to amazing parties and pretend I wasn’t starstruck by all the celebs, and of course exploring the art of blogging, which was so new to me.  My blogging skills has definitely improved since then, it’s so funny to look back at my old post.

2011 was an amazing year, where I continued to blog and I got amazing opportunities. I started blogging for Modette, and the summer of 2011 I got to go back to New York for two months, to work as a freelance journalist writing New York tips for them. I still have to pinch my arm to realize this all isn’t just a dream. I took a chance and quit a job I really didn’t like to become a full-time blogger, and I’ve never looked back.

In 2012 I got more into the game, and I started making good money on my blog which gave me the opportunity to travel, which is a huge passion of mine. In September I visited my bestie Tonje in South Africa, and had one of the best weeks of my life. In October I chased another dream of mine; Learning to make my own clothes. I headed to New York again and attended a sewing class, and learned so much! I also got lots of fun work opportunities, like doing more freelance work for Modette, and not to mention my very own monthly fashion column in the Norwegian newspaper BA. At the end of the year I moved my blog from Modette to Nettavisen, and a new chapter in my blog history started.

2013 was also an absolutely amazing year for me. I got to travel so much, like to New York with my cousin Fride, London with my friend Helene, La Gacilly/France with amazing bloggers, Greece with my boyfriend and sister, Tokyo with my man++. More career opportunities opened up, and I got the dream job as a guest designer for the Norwegian bag brand MOO. Designing has always been a huge dream of mine, so getting to sit down with their amazing team and design my own bags was a huge dream come true. The fall was spent working my ass off with another great project, as a fashion show director for the United Nations Association. For two months I ran around planning the whole show, finding models, finding tons of different outfits for all the models, fittings, rehearsals, and I was also the host on the whole fashion show which took place in the middle of the center of Bergen, with lots of audience. I got the most amazing letter of recommendation from them, which is gold to take with me in the future. I haven’t seen so much praise on one piece of paper ever, and all the hard work was worth it.

Now we’re suddenly in 2014, and I’ve been a fashion blogger for four whole years. It’s so crazy to think about! The everyday life as a blogger is just so… Weird!! Haha. I mean, taking tons of pictures of myself, day in and day out, then sharing them with thousands of girls from around the world. I don’t think it has affected me personally very much though, but I definitely think that if I was a more insecure person, this whole thing could be really unhealthy. When you take pictures of yourself every day you get so self conscious, and while I’ve definitely had my ups and downs, this whole thing has been an adventure of a lifetime, and I still can’t believe how lucky I am to get to do this! As you know, 2014 is a year where a lot of things are changing for me, mainly my new life as a marketing student. I can’t wait to finish my bachelor, and with my blog as my CV see what the future holds for me.

Now I’m so curios on you guys. Yes, you, who is reading my blog right now!! When did you start reading my blog? Do you have a moment that you remember extra well in my blog journey? Where are you from? I’d love to hear from you!!

I’ll finish by giving my blog and I a huge !H A P P Y  B I R TH D A Y!. It’s been a good run so fur, and it’s definitely not over yet♥

Wow, congrats! I can’t believe it’s been four years since I started reading your blog. Four years!! Since I am super-addicted to travelling and all things travel related, I remember stumbling upon your blog when you lived in NY. It seemed like your were living the dream! Ever since then I’ve followed you on your journeys through your blog. :) I’m wishing you many more happy blogging years, and may your new student life be equally as great! http://www.renatesreiser.com

CONGRATULATION Cath, this is soooo amazing. And I cannot believe that I have followed you and your life for two years now. I started following you in 2012 and this may sound weird but I totally felt in love with you. The way you write and the way you act on your blog is soooo likeable and you really seem like a friend to me. Your blog was actually the second blog I started reading, you were recommendet in a blog of an Austrian Girl which I follow.
I am from a small town in the Alps in Austria which is called Zell am See and I have a huge crush on Scandinavia. I was lucky to travel to Norway with my parents when I was younger and the best thing is that my boyfriends mom is Swedish, so we got to travel to Sweden at least twice a year. Together with my boyfriend I have also travelled to Norway. I spent my semester abroad in Finland and during that stay I travelled to Norway and Sweden as well. Oh Scandinavia – I just love you!
When I travelled to New York last year, I have read all your New York posts again and again – they were way better than any tourist guide which you can buy in a shop.
Keep up with your work, Cath, you are doing such a great job and you are such an inspiration! And I wish you all the best with your studies. I know, it may be hard from time to time but in the end it is all worth it!! Keep going, girl!!
    Hugs from Austria

Dear Cath, my man and I are together for almost 10 years. We started our relationship in 2004., as a 2 highschool teenagers. Through the years I’ve met his family and became very good friend with his mum, great woman, I would definetely said “cosmopolitan woman” who lived in small town. 2,5 years ago we were out with her and she told us that she need to go to the doctor to do some results. And that started sad time for all of us. She discovered that she got cancer, lung cancer in very high stadium. I was almost fall in depresion. It was the so sad for me, because I liked her a lot! My man is her only son, so he has got so cohesive relation with his mum. In that sad and very difficult time for me, I discovered your blog, I even don’t know how, can’t remember how. And than I started to read it every single day. You was my “blow off valve”. You made me feel better. She passed away and I still read you. I will never forget her, her beautiful and brave heart, as I will never forget the beauty you bring to me in those very difficult days. Nowadays my man and I are ok, we continue to live, and I can tell that we are again happy, even sometimes came sad days when we talk about her and her early ended life (she was only 50). With my 24 years of life I could honestly say to you that through your blog I meet you and I could only tell you the best. You are so beautiful person, I feel connection with you, you remind me on myself, like I know you whole the life :) Don’t be sad because of this post, I don’t want you to feel sad, I just want that you know that somewhere in the past your blog and your words made someones life happier :) Maybe sometime somewhere we met each other, and than I will give you a big hug :D Btw, you really advanced your blog skills through the years and you have my congratulations!!! :) Love from Amelia (my real name is actually Amela, without “i”). Kisses ;) (Sorry if I made some grammar mistakes, it is important that you understand me.)

Well at first: “Happy Birthday beautiful Cath in the City!”
I remember the day when I found your blog and it seems to me like it was just yesterday. Crazy that it’s been already 4 years! Well, you was the first international blogger who awaked my passion for fashion (Btw. Love Norwegian stylish girls!) and since the day I’ve started looking for other blogs and now I’m totally addicted! Maybe you feel kind of weird when you’re taking pics of yourself every day but trust me – stalking somebody for 4 years every single day (and panic when link is not working, haha) is much weirder, haha. So the point: I’m reading your blog since you made it and I’m sure I won’t never stop! So if comes a day when you’ll be consindering it’s time to quit – remember me and thousands of other people who love you as much as I do! I wish you at least other 4 years of blogging, sweetie and of course many lovely opportunities which blog brings you every day/year.

    G-r-a-t-u-l-e-r-e-r med dagen, CathInTheCity! :-)

Hmm, vanskelig å velge frem noe man husker bedre enn annet gjennom din bloggreise..

    Hi Cath,
I started reading your blog last year. I love the fact that you update so regularly and your posts are always so interesting to read. It’s also nice that you write about so many different things, rather than it just being a ‘beauty’ or a ‘fashion’ blog. And your photos are always stunning!

I live in the UK, near Manchester.

Congratulations!! I think I started reading your blog not too much time ago, maybe last winter. I don’t have any particular memory (yet) on your blog, but I think why I keep on following you is because you seem such a sweet and nice person! :) For a fashion blog I think personality is maybe more important than style, I know some bloggers that dress really well but I’m just not able to follow them when their blog is really unpersonal or the blogger seems not kind. Another reason why I like to follow your blog is because we look a bit a like, it’s always nice to see someone of the same type (haircolour, bodyshape, even face shape a bit) wearing clothes you like, so you know it will probably look good on you as well. :) Oh and one little secret :P , your the only blog I comment on from time to time.:) I’m from Netherlands btw. xoxo

Huge congratulations on your success throughout your blog! I’ve been obsessed with your blog for about a year now where I stumbled across it through instagram. I wish I had known about your blog four years ago when you first started but I am so glad that I can now follow your journey for the years to come. I am from England (Manchester) and would love to start my own blog but I know I am not ready to do so yet, you give me so much inspiration and hope that one day I might just get there. Reading your blog at night with a cup of coffee is something I always look forward to. I can not thank you enough for always making me smile. I wish you all the happiness in the world. Best wishes always, Lucy.

Hi there..:) I absolutely love your blog…and feel like i’ve been living with you all of these four years…I think it’s the way of your writing though that makes us feel like we know you although we don’t…I left a comment before summer i think – telling you that I applied for my last semester in accounting here..and here I am, still in Norway…working until Christmas before I leave Norway after an awesome year with so many memories. I wish I could’ve stayed longer but I have a boyfriend back home and he is my everything and he’s handling the patience very well so…I’m Claire btw…26 y/o from Friendswood in Texas…but I have some of my roots in Norway, like my grandma’s dad was Norwegian…so i’m partly Norwegian. Anyways…I wish you all happiness n joy..you’re unique..:)

Congratulations!! I read your blog since a year or so and it’s really one of my favourites! You seem so sweet and always positive, and I really love your sense of style. I also think it’s amazing that you’re going back to school now! And can I just say, I haven’t been reading your blog since the beginning but it looks like your photo skills improved soooo much! You really have beautiful photos that look like they come straight out of a magazine! I also really admire how you find the time to blog several times a day, I have a blog myself but when I update once a week I am already proud of myself haha (that’s bad right). Can’t wait for your next years of blogging! xxx

I have been reading your blog from pretty much the beginning and you have always been my favourite and most relatable blogger! I love your transition over the past four years in blogging and style and you have come such a long way and had so much success. I feel like I’ve been with you on the journey and almost grown up with you for the past four years and I have to say a massive congratulations and I will remain a fan whatever you choose do in the future.

Hi Cath! Happy 4 years! Looking at the pictures in this post made me think, “no way, those pictures were from that long ago?!” I feel like some of those pictures/posts were just a few months ago. I have been reading your blog since sometime in 2012 and I read it everyday. I have visited other blogs, but I never have enjoyed others more than yours. Yours is actually the only one I read. You are so real, honest, and kind which is a huge part of why I love your blog. I think there are three of your posts that stand out to me the most. The first would be your Christmas posts (it’s my favorite time of the year), second would be your sister’s wedding, and third would be Moab. I can’t wait for everything that is to come! I’m so excited for you and your blog for all of your new adventures and opportunities! Love from Wisconsin, US!
