Makeup Monday is here, and today I’ll share the makeup look I had for the birthday bash on Saturday. I love how burgundy eyeshadows bring out blue eyes, so I chose some gorgeous burgundy eyeshadows with a hint of metallic in them, and combined that with pale lips as opposed to my usual bright pink ones. I really liked the look, and I’ll definitely be sporting it again. Here is the products I used..
The first thing I did was filling in my eyebrows. I used the Brow Powder Duo from Glo Minerals in the color ‘taupe’, and the Dual Brow Brush from the same brand. The products are really easy to work with, the powder blends in perfectly in the brows. The angled tips of the brow brush makes it very easy to shape and define the brows. After that I applied Eye and Lip Primer from Studiomakeup all over my eyelids and on my lips. A good eyeshadow primer is a must for me, otherwise the eyeshadow will just crease and I’ll end up with very-not-pretty lines of eyeshadow over my eyes. This one is one of the best I’ve tried! I applied my makeup in the morning, and didn’t remove it before 4am, and my eyeshadow stayed perfect all through the day and night.
When I applied my eyeshadow, I put a light base color on first. The color ‘Bamboo‘ from GloMinerals was perfect. I put it all over my lids and all the way up to my brows. Then I put the color ‘Socialite’ from TooFaced all over my lids. It’s sort of a bronzy color with a little pink in it. The last step to the eyeshadow was applying the darker color Temper Temper on the corners of my eyes and in my crease. I also applied a tiny bit under my eyes in the outer corners. Both eyeshadows from TooFaced can be found here. I really like the colors, and I love the fact that they’re a bit shimmery. Perfect for a birthday bash!
When applying eyeshadow, good brushes are a m-u-s-t!! When applying the lighter base shadow, I used the fluffier tip of the Crease, Love and Happiness – Smudger and tapered crease brush. When applying the bronze color all over my lids, I used the other end. I love brushes that have one brush on each side for different uses. This one was so soft, and perfect for applying eyeshadow. When I applied the darker color, a smaller brush was necessary. By using the Smudge brush from GloMinerals, I was able to apply the darker color only on the spots I wanted to, and really define the crease. A small brush like this is so handy to have, both for defining the crease, and for applying eyeshadow on the lash line under your eyes.
After applying the eyeshadow it was eyeliner time. First I used the eyeliner Color Smooth from Studiomakeup in the color ‘Plum Perfect’ to make a thicker line from the inner to the outer corner of my eyes. I also put a bit on the outer corners under my eyes, on the wet line. Then I used the Felt Tip Liner from NYX to create a thinner line, which I extended out to a subtle cat eye. The liner was very easy to work with, and the color stayed pitch black all through the night. I often find liquid eyeliners to loose color and turn grey-ish after a few hours, but this one stayed perfect until I removed my makeup.
The Shadow Shields were totally new to me, and I gotta say, these things are so genius!! I use a lot of dark colors when it comes to eyeshadow, and to avoid the shadow from drizzling down to under my eyes and my cheeks, I always fold toilet paper and use one hand to keep that in place under my eyes, haha. Not too fancy! These little pads have a very gentle glue on one side (glue is totally the wrong word, but it sticks to the skin without messing up the makeup underneath), and you place them under your eyes when applying eyeshadow. If anything drizzles down to your cheeks, these pads will catch it. When you’re done, just remove the pads. So smart, right? I can’t believe I haven’t discovered these before!!
As I mentioned I opted for a paler lip than usual, which I think harmonized with the eyeshadow color perfectly. I used the Perfect Lips Lip Liner from TooFaced in the color ‘nude’ to fill in my lips. Over I put the La Creme Color Drenched Lip Cream from TooFaced in the color ‘Nude Beach’. Nude lips is totally new to me, and I actually really liked the look, even though I’ve been a fan of bright pink lips for years. It’s fun to try new things! With a nude lip, the focus was drawn to the eyes, in stead of letting the lips and the eyes fight for the attention by wearing bright colors both places. The lipstick is very moisturizing and at the same time it gives a great amount of color, which stays on for hours and hours. I’m generally not a big fan of lipsticks as I think they often make my lips look dry, but this one just made them look moist. Thumbs up!!
The finishing touch to the look was adding a bit of shimmer with the Radiance Booster Highlighter from Bodyography. Normally I don’t like to have shimmer in my face, so I was so pleasantly surprised when this one didn’t give a glittery look at all. It added a nice glow to the areas I put it on, which was my cheekbones, the bridge of my nose and under my eyebrows. When the light hit those places, the glow was more visible, but when it was darker you couldn’t see the shimmer at all, just a dewy glow. That’s perfect in my eyes, so this is without a doubt my new favorite highlighter! This one I’ll actually use for daytime as well, because it was so subtle.
I wish I could apply the “Happy Birthday” nailpolish from Deborah Lippman to my nails, that would be so fitting! As I have Gelish on my nails already I couldn’t do that, but this one will definitely come on once the Gelish is gone.
So there’s my complete birthday look! I was super happy with it, and I loved the products I used. If you want to try some of them yourselves, you can use the code “CATH3” and get a whoppin’ 20% discount on all the products in this post, except from the nail polish. The code is valid until the 14th of September. Now that the birthday bash is over I just have to realize that I have to wait a whole year to celebrate it again, but luckily I have these balloons I got from the ladies left. I’ll secretly be in complete birthday mode as long as I have them, yay!

Hei, fine Cathrine.
