Basic pieces are so important in a wardrobe, so I thought I’d do a post on my favorite basics. Without basics getting dressed is impossible, and I always have my favorites that I wear again and again. Pieces that you can dress up and down, wear for both daytime and nighttime, and that never go out of style. My little list of basic pieces starts with the biggest fave;
Everyone who has followed my blog must know that this kind of skirt if my absolute favorite. Some of you have even told me that you just call this style “The Cathinthecity Skirt”, haha. That’s awesome! This kind of skirt is so figure friendly, and can be worn to any occasion, all year around. The safest bet is of course a black one, but I have both patterned, light ones and colored ones in my closet. For spring and summer, just tuck a tee or a light blouse into it and you’re set. For fall and winter, use the skirt as a base and layer warmer pieces like chunky knits, scarfs and wool tights. The picture of the one where I’m wearing a knitted sweater is the one I made myself. When I take up sewing again soon, I’ll definitely make more of these!
A huge must in my wardrobe! I wear them with everything, like over jeans, tucked into skirts, with peg trousers.. They go with everything! And they can be dressed up and down so easily. My favorite ones are all from Zara, they’re simply the best. I like them thin and even a little see through.
If you don’t already have a maxi dress hanging in your closet, it’s time to get going and buy one! Especially for summer they’re the go-to-pieces in my closet. They are so comfy, chic and almost don’t require any styling. Wear them with Converse for daytime and heels for nighttime, and you’re all set! For fall you can wear them with a leather jacket over and look super chic, and for spring a denim jacket is great.
Peg trousers have become a must for me over the last six months or so. Earlier I never wore them, but now I’m completely addicted. They’re loose, comfortable and chic. I like patterned ones the best, but it can be difficult to find a pair that fits just right, so I’m still on the lookouts for more. I like them best with heels and a lightweight blouse tucked in, but for fall I’ll wear them with knits and boots.
Of course a good pair of jeans need to be on the list! I’m not really a jeans girl, but during the last year I’ve started wearing them more and more. The key is just to find the right fit for your figure. The jeans I wear are always high waisted and stretchy. It’s been so hard finding a model that fits just right because of my big bum and small waist, but the high waisted SuperFlex ones from Never Denim are perfect! I’ve also found a model at Asos which are called something like high waist super stretch jeans, and they’re also a big fave. I’m still a big skirt girl at heart, but it’s nice to have at least a few pairs of comfy jeans available in my closet.
White must be my favorite color for clothes, even though it’s not the most exciting look. I just find it so classy and pretty! Therefore, a chic white jacket is a must in my closet. It of course goes with everything, and especially for spring and summer I prefer a white jacket over darker colors.
The leather jacker of course also made the list, I don’t know what I’d do without it! My favorite way to match the leather jacket is with something super girly, like white lace. It makes such a cool contrast. For chilly summer days I’ll wear it with a dress, and for fall I’ll wear it with knits, a huge scarf, skinny jeans and boots.
A statement necklace is probably a bit odd to have on a basic list, but having a few to choose from in your wardrobe is so nice. If you feel like your outfit is cute but just needs that little ‘je ne sais quoi’, throw on a statement necklace and you’re good to go! Zara and Asos have great selections when it comes to necklaces, so check it out! :)
Speaking of clothes, I cleaned out my wardrobe yesterday and my mom was supposed to bring all the clothes I didn’t need anymore to Fretex, but on her way she spotted two foreign ladies, a mother and a daughter, who looked like they didn’t have a lot of money. After speaking with them she found out that they almost didn’t have any clothes besides what they were wearing, so my mom gave them my clothes. That’s so awesome, I hope I spot them on the street rocking my dresses, bags and shoes, haha. Now I’m gonna continue on with the house cleaning, and I’m so excited for my boyfriend to come home from work as we’re gonna try to find a weekend trip for this weekend. I just feel such a need to travel right now, and my boyfriend has the weekend off, so I really hope we can find something. Maybe any of you have some destination suggestions for me?♥
The peg trousers, love it!!
:) Flinke Cathrine!
Så utrolig gøy at du likte det :D Takk for fin kommentar :) <3
Me too!! :)
:) Takk for tips <3
Gorgeous looks!

Elsker dette innlegget! Lag flere slike :)
Så bra :D
Knallbra innlegg!
Nice innlegg!
Så utrolig hyggelig ,takk :)
[…] doing the post ‘Back to Basics‘, some of you requested a post with suggestions. I didn’t find too much, but I hope you […]
Hei! Flotte tips.
